Council motion on Modern Slavery Act 2015

Aberdeen City Council is to explore potential action it can take to support the provisions of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Full Council yesterday unanimously backed a Notice of Motion from Councillor Nurul Hoque Ali noting that as a public body the Council should not only be upholding the highest possible ethical standards but contributing to the “elimination of this scourge on our society”.

A report will be brought to Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee on the status of the Act, including any proposed legislative changes and a review of what local authorities and other major public institutions across the UK have in place.
