Aberdeen City Council is to explore potential action it can take to support the provisions of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Full Council yesterday unanimously backed a Notice of Motion from Councillor Nurul Hoque Ali noting that as a public body the Council should not only be upholding the highest possible ethical standards but contributing to the “elimination of this scourge on our society”.
A report will be brought to Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee on the status of the Act, including any proposed legislative changes and a review of what local authorities and other major public institutions across the UK have in place.
