Book an appointment at a household waste and recycling centre

You must book an appointment to visit a Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) if you are taking: 

  • Paint or chemicals in any size of vehicle (these materials are only accepted at Hazlehead)
  • Transit-type vans
  • Cars with trailers
  • People carriers above seven seater capacity
  • Pick up trucks
  • Vans with a capacity above four cubic metres

Cars and small vans can access the sites without a booking but will need to bring proof of an address within Aberdeen City Council's boundaries. 

Commercial waste is not permitted at any time. 

Vehicles with unlimited access to HWRCs include cars, MPVs, 4 x 4s and small vans. Vehilces that must book an appointment are: vans with capacity greated than 4 cubic meters, pic-up trucks, MPV with more than 7 seats and trailers. You must also book if taking paint or chemicals to Hazlehead recycling centre. We do not accept commercial waste but you can take a work van as long as it contains household waste and you book an appointment.

Reschedule or cancelling appointments

If you have registered for an account, you can cancel your booking. Enter your booking reference, scroll to the right on the search results and select the red cancel button.

We currently don’t have a cancellation form for customers who booked without an account. If you decide on a more suitable day or time please book a new appointment.

Larger vehicles that require an appointment include;

Larger vehicles generally need more time to unload waste which can result in a queue building up. A booking system enables access for larger vehicles in a controlled manner whilst helping to manage the flow of traffic through the site. 

Due to the nature of these materials they require to be controlled and deposited with supervision. 
 

Anyone arriving in a larger vehicle, or bringing paint and chemicals, will need to book an appointment. Bookings must be made in advance and are only available to Aberdeen city residents. Upon arrival, you will need to show proof of address (i.e. council tax bill, utility bill, bank statement), your booking reference number and hire vehicle documentation if applicable. 
 

Yes, if the site is busy and there are already vehicles waiting when you arrive If a queue causes you to be later than your allocated slot you will still be allowed access.  We recommend that you arrive as close to your booking time as possible.
 
 

Yes, please enter “HIREVAN” into the booking system when it asks for your vehicle registration number. When you arrive at the HWRC, you will need to show paperwork for the hire vehicle as well as proof of address and your booking reference number.

If your vehicle has more than 7 seats, you will need to book. 

Yes, you can bring a van plus a trailer. 

Yes, you can take your work van as long as it contains domestic waste from your house and you book an appointment.

None of the HWRCs in Aberdeen are licensed to take commercial waste. Please use a licensed waste management company to dispose of your waste or contact our Trade Waste Team to arrange a trade waste collection service

We are not currently planning to introduce a booking system for all site users, however, the booking system will be kept under review.

Our booking system is online. If you require dedicated support from us to make an appointment online, you can phone our Customer Contact Centre on 03000 200 292 and we can provide guidance over the telephone. 

We recognise that circumstances change and you may not be able to make your appointment.
