Communal general waste bin

Communal General Waste Bin

Communal general waste bins are available if you live in a block of flats or tenement where there wouldn't be space for every household to have their own bin. Depending on your property, the bin will be located either on the street next to the mixed recycling bin, in the bin store, or somewhere else nearby.

The general waste bins have black lids and can be used to dispose of most materials that don't go in mixed recycling or food waste bins. Batteries, vapes, small electricals, gas canisters, hot ashes, rubble and soil, corrosive materials and liquids including paint, stones and large solid objects don't go in general waste bins. These can be taken to a recycling centre for disposal. Please check your nearest recycling centre to see which items are accepted.

  • All waste must fit in the bin with the lid closed. If the bin is full please contact the waste and recycling team
  • Don't leave any excess or large waste items on the street next to the bin.
  • Do not put loose waste into the bin. Waste should be tied in plastic bags.

Additional waste

Please do not leave any extra waste or large items at the side of the bin because we will not be able to collect them. If you have excess waste or a large item that will not fit in the bin, you can:

Take it to a household waste and recycling centre for disposal

Arrange a collection of bulky waste. There is a charge for this service, unless you are a Council tenant.
