Aberdeen City Mortuary

Aberdeen City Council provides and staffs a mortuary facility for all deaths where the Procurator Fiscal may require a post mortem examination to be carried out to determine the cause of death. This facility, which forms part of Police Scotland Headquarters at Queen Street in Aberdeen, also provides a service for Aberdeenshire, Moray and Shetland Councils, as required. NHS Grampian is responsible for the provision of mortuary facilities for deaths that occur on NHS premises.

The dedicated staff at the City Mortuary collaborate with the pathologist during post-mortem examinations and ensure that loved ones are respectfully cared for until they can be returned to family members for burial or cremation.
