Accessibility at Council meetings

Aberdeen City Council is dedicated to enhancing accessibility across all council services, including council meetings. This commitment ensures that diverse representation and voices are heard, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can participate and contribute to our city and your community’s development.

The following accessibility measures are in place to assist accessibility to council meetings:

  • Loop Systems are installed in meeting rooms or a mobile unit can be accessed from reception to assist individuals with hearing impairments.
  • British Sign Language Interpreters and community interpreters are available upon request (requires prior booking to ensure availability of interpreters on the required date and time).
  • Service / Guide dogs are welcome into council buildings.
  • Where meetings are also held electronically, Teams provides captions that transcribe spoken words into written text.
  • Meeting agendas, minutes, and other materials can be made available in multiple formats, including large print or digital formats that are accessible with screen readers.
  • All Council and Committee meetings are held in hybrid format to offer more flexibility to attend meetings remotely based on individual needs and circumstances.
  • Information relating to meetings (agendas and reports) are published on this website prior to the meeting.
  • Accessibility of council buildings - the entrance to the Town House extension has ramp access, where requested, accessible parking bays can be pre-booked. Inside the building, there is lift access to meetings rooms.

Accessibility accommodations are available based on individual requirements, upon request, and where reasonable adjustments can be implemented to address those needs.
