This document forms the evidence base that supports the Local Housing Strategy 2025-2030 draft consultation document.
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 places a statutory duty on councils to produce a Local Housing Strategy (LHS) supported by an assessment of housing need and demand. The Scottish Government’s Local Housing Strategy Guidance 2019 has been followed in the production of this evidence base.
The document summarises the progress made during the delivery of the previous LHS. Some of the key areas covered include:
- Ensuring there is an adequate supply of housing to meet the needs of the people of Aberdeen.
- Shaping sustainable and thriving communities by adopting a place-based approach to engage local people in decision-making.
- Supporting a proactive approach to homelessness with the aim of making homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring.
- Promoting independent living and promoting health through housing by highlighting the need for accessible housing for various groups, including older adults, people with disabilities, and minority ethnic communities.
- Improving housing quality and energy efficiency.
- Supporting a well managed private sector.
