Aberdeen's Christmas Parade and Charlie House Santa Run

Christmas in Aberdeen 2024

Sunday 17 November 2024, 5.15pm, Union Street & Union Terrace - FREE

 

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr David Cameron, will get the festivities underway, with Santas on scooters setting off just after 5.15pm followed by the Charlie House Santa Fun Run on Union Street and Union Terrace at 5.25pm. 

The main parade will set off at 5.30pm from Albyn Place and make its way down Union Street before turning onto Union Terrace and finishing at His Majesty's Theatre.

The parade will feature familiar favourites such as Santa and giant elves, as well as panto characters from various Aberdeen productions, festive floats, music performances from the Rock Choir, nativity scene by Aberdeen Churches Together, local charities, sports groups and community organisations, all led by Dunnottar Pipes and Drums. 
 

Aberdeen's Christmas Tree, gifted from our twin city of Stavanger in Norway, will also be lit and located at the Castlegate. 

 

Road Closures

On Sunday 17 November:

From 4pm to 6pm:

· Albyn Place from its junction with Albyn Grove to its junction with Holburn Junction.

 

From 5pm to 7pm:

· Union Street from its junction with Albyn Place to Union Bridge

· Union Terrace full length

· Chapel Street from Thistle Street to Union Street

· Diamond Lane

· Rosemount Viaduct from its junction with Skene Street to its junction with Denburn Viaduct.

· Denburn Viaduct full length

· Blackfriars Street full length

· St. Andrews Street from its junction with Blackfriars Street and Charlotte Street/ Crooked Lane.

· Schoolhill full length

 

Alternative routes will be available. 

 

Parking Restrictions

From 6pm on 16 November to 7pm on 17 November 2024 there will be no parking on:

· Albyn Place from its junction with Albyn Grove to its junction with Holburn Street.

· Victoria Street from its junction with Albyn Place to its junction with Waverley Place/Thistle Street.

· Union Terrace from its junction with Union Street and Rosemount Viaduct.

· St. Andrews Street from its junction with Blackfriars Street and Charlotte Street/ Crooked Lane.

· Schoolhill full length (inc. Pocket Park)

 

Taxis

The following taxi ranks will be closed during the parade:-

Dee Street and Back Wynd

 

All other ranks within the City Centre will be open for business.

 

From 4pm to 7pm on the 17 November 2024:

Chapel Street taxi rank will be moved back to outside the Holiday Inn Express which will allow taxis to exit to Huntly Street.
