Aberdeen Reads Challenges

There will be 8 reading related challenges to complete this Summer as part of Aberdeen Reads. Challenges can be completed in any order.

Pick up or download a Challenge Card and get it stamped at your nearest library when you complete a challenge.

Incentives are available for readers aged 4-15 years, earning a little something when they log 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 challenges or books.

Week beginning Monday 24 June

Head to your nearest library and pick up an Aberdeen Reads Challenge Card, or download one online, and get reading this Summer!

Week beginning Monday 1 July

Pupils from Westpark and Seaton Schools produced a comic about famous people from Victorian Aberdeen.  You can read the comic and learn something new about historical figures from our city's past.  You can download the comic here.

Codebreaking Challenge

 

Our libraries will be running several FREE Aberdeen Reads-themed activities throughout the summer.  Check out our Events page for further information once the challenge is launched. 

Week beginning Monday 15 July

Every book read and logged with your nearest library during the Summer will help Library Bear's journey through time. 

Why not read a story or book set in another time or has a historical theme? We will have displays in every library and some online carousels to browse on our digital catalogue.

Week beginning Monday 22 July

Which historical figures would you like to invite to lunch?  You can have 3 figures from the past attend your time travellers lunch!

Pop into your local library and let us know, or message us on social media.

 

Week beginning Monday 29 July

Can you find all of the time travellers hiding around the library? This special Aberdeen Reads! themed Scavenger Hunt is available at every city library. 

Week beginning Monday 5 August

Make a model of a time machine and bring in or show us a photo of your creation.

Week beginning Monday 12 August

Look up some hieroglyphs in a book from the library or online and write your name!

Week beginning Monday 19 August

Use some LEGO to create a historical landmark, or create a landscape from the future!
