Cashless parking

On 20 October 2020 PayByPhone became the cashless parking provider in Aberdeen.

PayByPhone offers motorists an alternative means of payment to the existing pay and display machines by paying via your mobile phone.

The service is now available in all street parking locations, each car park has its own unique location number to be quoted when paying.

Register with PayByPhone

You can register with PayByPhone either by downloading the PayByPhone smartphone app free of charge from the relevant store or at PayByPhone Register.

When you register for the service you will be asked to provide:

  • The number plate, colour and make of your vehicle.
  • Your payment card details.

You can also register at the same time you want to park, using the PayByPhone app or by calling 01224 440871.

The PayByPhone service includes the following features:

  • Optional SMS reminders and receipts.
  • Email receipts
  • VAT receipts
  • Countdown timer on the app
  • The option to extend parking (within parking restrictions)
  • Multiple vehicles and cards added on to one account

Using PayByPhone

Once you have registered, PayByPhone recognises your mobile phone number and retrieves information you have given previously. This means that when you pay you only have to give:

  • The location code for where you are parked.
Each area offering PayByPhone has its own six-digit location number, which will be signposted. See all PayByPhone location codes.
  • How long you want to park for.
  • The 3-digit security code from your payment card.

The PayByPhone web page provides further information, as well as demonstration videos that are available on Youtube on how to use the App and service.

PayByPhone have also developed a self-service support centre on their website

You can find out more on the PayByPhone website.

Costs

There is no charge for registering with PayByPhone.

There is no longer any convenience charge for using the service, the cost of a cashless parking session will be the same as using a Pay and Display machine.

If you call PayByPhone, you will be charged the standard rate agreed with your mobile phone operator. Such calls are often included free in mobile phone packages, so if you get free minutes, your call will usually be included in this.

Please be aware of scams involving fake QR codes on pay-and-display parking meters. Recent scams across the country have seen fake QR codes places on parking signage and meters that once scanned takes the user to fraudulent websites that takes their details and payment.

We don’t have QR codes on any of our machines across the city.

VAT receipts

If you need a VAT receipt for your PayByPhone parking session, you can view and print it online by logging into the PayByPhone website. If you provide your e-mail address, you can opt to receive a receipt automatically every time you park. Just login and add your email address into the Settings menu.

Meters For Trees

Meters for Trees is based on a very simple principle: replacing parking meters with trees through PayByPhone.

Not only does cashless parking save money through theft; but improves air quality by removing the need for vehicles drive all over town collecting cash from the machines and maintaining them when they break or are vandalised. Either way, clocking up miles and releasing harmful carbon dioxide into the air.

Via this programme PayByPhone have already donated 65 trees and has offset 65 tonnes of carbon dioxide through Portel-Pará REDD, a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) audited project in the Amazon rainforest that combats deforestation.
