How we use your information
Aberdeen City Council collects and maintains information about you and your child for the purposes of assessing your application for music tuition, for providing any resulting tuition and if required, for the provision of a loaned instrument. Places for tuition are allocated on a first come, first served basis and on some occasions, pupils may have to wait for a space to become available. Should this be the case your child will be kept on a waiting list and will be offered tuition as soon as a place becomes available.
How long we keep your information for
We keep this information for as long as your child is receiving music tuition or remains on the waiting list, and for 5 years after your child stops receiving tuition. We keep anonymised data beyond this period for the purposes of auditing service provision and quality assurance. We keep financial records for the current year plus 6 years.
Your rights
You have rights to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. See more information about the rights you have, how they work in practice, and the contact details for the Council's Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you think we havent handled your data properly.
Our legal basis
Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for the information you. Wherever the Council processes personal data, we need to make sure we have a legal basis for doing so in data protection law. The Council considers the provision of the Music Service as part of our public task under the Education (Scotland) Act 1980.
In administering this task, we are also likely to process special categories of personal data. The Council understands our legal basis for doing so as necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.
