A range of actions are set to take place as part of a city-wide collaborative programme to support the delivery of Net Zero Aberdeen and Aberdeen Adapts.
Plans include producing child-friendly versions of key documentation, and encouraging wider sign up and participation from public, private and community organisations with the growth of the Aberdeen Climate and Nature Pledge.
The Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee today backed an indicative work programme setting out the next steps in the development and delivery of collaborative actions towards reducing carbon emissions and building climate resilience in the city.
The school engagement would be led by council officers and the Youth Climate Change Group – set up in 2022 with £150,000 of council funding – and include a presentation of the City’s Net Zero Routemap.
Aberdeen City Council Co-leader, Councillor Ian Yuill said: “As a council we have taken a lead on protecting the environment and backing this plan is a major step for the whole city.
“Climate change is everyone’s problem – and it’s important that we continue to work with partners on this wide-ranging programme. That includes the city’s youngsters, who can play a key critical role in building a greener future.”
Activity over the last 12 months has included a series of Circular Economy workshops exploring ways to reduce and maximise value from waste, job creation and enhanced business resilience.
