Your data: Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

How we use your information

When you book a slot at one of our HWRCs, we will ask for your name and contact details (residential address, email address and phone number). We will also request your vehicle registration number. Your name, vehicle registration number, residency post code, and the time and date of your appointment will be passed to the waste management company currently operating the HWRCs on behalf of Aberdeen City Council so they can confirm the validity of the booking and that the correct resident has arrived at the HWRC.

How long we keep your information for

The information will be held by the Waste & Recycling Service for 6 years. After this time it will be anonymized and then deleted after 7 years.

Your rights

You have rights to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. See more information about all of the rights you have. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office. That is the body responsible for making sure organisations like the Council handle your data lawfully.

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the data controller for this information. Wherever the Council processes personal data, we need to make sure we have a legal basis for doing so in data protection law. The Council understands our legal basis for processing personal data in relation to domestic waste and recycling as 6(1)(c) and 6(1)(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation.

This is because this activity is part of our public task, and something which the Council is legally required to do under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and The Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012.
