Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums (AAGM) cares for collections of outstanding importance and quality on behalf of the people of Aberdeen. AAGM is part of Aberdeen City Council’s City Development and Regeneration function. Through its collections, buildings, exhibitions and events AAGM strives to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone who lives, works, studies and visits Aberdeen. The entire collection is recognised by the Scottish Government as being of national significance. The Medieval Burgh Records are recognised by UNESCO as being of outstanding historical importance. Aberdeen has a unique past with the face of the city consistently evolving, and we strive to inspire and empower our communities to love their own culture and to share that pride with the wider world.
Our service aims to collect contemporary art and craft, objects with meaning and connection, new and old with stories about the city, to reflect our city’s culture in its many forms - creating a record of our city and its place in the world for future generations.
We aim to contribute to a healthy, safe and prosperous city, want to open our doors to curiosity, enquiry and discovery, and look after the wonderful cultural collections and historic buildings we have been entrusted with.
Our Sustainability Values Statement
- We care about our community, our visitors, and our planet.
- We understand the need to protect our natural environment and limit the day-to-day impact of our venues.
- We aim to follow and champion Aberdeen City Council’s Climate Change plan towards a Net Zero and Climate Resilient Council which sets out the scope of the City Council’s ambitions to achieve Net Zero by 2045. We will actively follow good sustainability practices, reduce the environmental impacts of our activities, and give something back to our community and the environment.
Our Sustainability Statement
- We will uphold sustainability practices by:
- Ensuring we comply with all relevant environmental regulations and legislation.
- Reducing our consumption of resources including energy, water, and other raw materials, and ensuring the efficient use of the resources we do consume.
- Ensuring consideration is given to the environmental, social, and ethical impacts of the goods and services we buy.
- Working with our suppliers to reduce the impact of our supply chain and to encourage them to improve their sustainable and environmental practices.
- Managing waste generated from our business in line with the waste hierarchy; by avoiding waste in the first place, then giving priority to minimising, reusing, recycling, recovery of waste, and finally ensuring the safe disposal of waste.
- Regularly reviewing our practices with the aim of continually improving the impact of our business activities on the environment, local community, and wider society.
- Measuring and taking action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our business activities.
- Supporting social and environmental projects and initiatives within our community or in wider society.
This policy will be reviewed regularly to evaluate its continued relevance and to monitor our progress.
