We’re grateful for the donations of objects received over the decades.

These gifts, which include bequests, have created the core of the city's collection and contributed to the understanding of our rich heritage.

Donations to Aberdeen City’s Museums and Gallery require a transfer of ownership from you to Aberdeen City Council. We cannot guarantee that your donation will go on display but will ensure it is looked after whilst in our care.

Bequests are legal agreements where property or money may be transferred to another owner in a will. If you are considering a bequest to the collection of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, please contact us in writing by post or online marked for the attention of:

Important note:

We cannot accept everything that is offered to us

We will not take objects in at our welcome desk if drop-off has not been pre-arranged with a curator.

If objects are retained for assessment, but we subsequently decide we cannot accept them, we will do our best to return these unwanted items to you. Please make sure you inform us of your full contact details. 

We reserve the right to dispose of these items 4 months after notifying you that the donation has been declined.
