The Aberdeen-based Cargill Trio (Blair Cargill, Guera Crockett and Alison MacDonald) share their love of the repertoire written for violin, cello and piano with a programme including Lili Boulanger's 'D'un matin de printemps' and Mendelssohn Piano Trio No 2 in C minor.

Guera Crockett – Violin
Guera Crockett was born in Aberdeen and studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Clarence Myerscough, and in her Postgraduate year at RAM with Xue Wei. She became a member of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla in 1991 then went on to join the Ulster Orchestra, and later the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, as well as freelancing with RSNO and SCO.
Guera returned to Aberdeen to raise her family and teaches violin at Aberdeen City Music School, North-East of Scotland Music School, and The University of Aberdeen.
She is a member of Aberdeen Sinfonietta and helped create a new contemporary music ensemble ‘Any Enemy’ which has performed regularly at the Sound Festival since making it’s debut in 2018.
Blair Cargill - piano
Blair Cargill was born in Arbroath and began his musical life as a trumpet player before commencing piano studies at the age of thirteen. He was awarded an entrance scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and finished his studies on the Advanced Postgraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music gaining the LRAM piano teacher’s diploma and the Jackson prize for all-round excellence in piano playing.
His teachers have included Kathleen Renilson, John York, Alexander Kelly and principally the Russian teacher Nina Sereda. He currently teaches piano at Banchory and Mackie Academies and combines this with accompaniment/recital work and teaching at Robert Gordon’s College.
Alison MacDonald – Cello
Alison MacDonald studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Sharon McKinley and Douglas Cummings. She graduated with distinction and was the recipient of the college string prize. As a freelance cellist Alison appeared with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Sinfonia Cymru and the Charlie Barber Band. Alison was also a member of the Sentica Piano Trio, Junior Fellows in chamber music at RWCMD. The group performed extensively including recitals at St Paul’s Covent Garden, St John’s College Oxford, Halifax Square Chapel Festival and Highgrove. The trio also undertook concert tours in Columbia, Venezuela and Portugal.
Alison moved to Aberdeen in 2005. She is now principal ‘cello of Aberdeen Sinfonietta, performs regularly with the Aberdeen Chamber players and teaches at St Margaret’s school for girls and Robert Gordon’s College
