Join artist and curator Alaya Ang and members of the LUX Scotland team for two programming workshops taking place on the 18 and 25 February 2 – 4pm in the Learning Space at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
How do we learn from and think with the swamp as artists and curators? In this 2‑part session, we investigate the notion of the swamp through film, music and conversations, thinking with this rhizomatic structure to contemplate ways of developing programmes through interdisciplinary methods. We will also read Audre Lorde’s ‘Your Silence Will Not Protect You’ to think about forms of legitimacy to speak, and experiment with ways of writing that encourage horizontality, using citational engagements, remixing notes, silence and disfluency to create a weaving and merging of texts.
The event is open to those who are interested in learning about different approaches to making public programmes of moving image work. There are fifteen workshop places available and we encourage participants to attend both sessions, where possible. We would expect that the group would include participants at an early stage of their career who would value learning new methods and developing their interests in a supported space led by an established programmer. No prior experience of curating is expected.
On booking, participants will be given further information to prepare for the workshop. Please note that the workshop is for those who are no longer in full-time education.
This workshop is part of a wider professional development programme by LUX Scotland for early career Aberdeen-based artists and curators. The programme includes workshops, screening and discussion events and is supported by Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding.
