If the Second Dutch War (1665–67) is remembered at all, it is for the bold Dutch attack up the river Medway, burning the pride of the Royal Navy at anchor and towing away King Charles II's flagship. Less spectacular, and less well known, is their earlier attack on the Firth of Forth. This talk examines the connection between the two events, and the relationship between King Charles's navy and his Kingdom of Scotland.
