Constructed Narratives: Lennox Dunbar, Ian Howard and Arthur Watson
14 October - 28 January
Aberdeen Art Gallery
Admission free
This is a great exhibition for S4 to S6 and college learners to visit as inspiration for their portfolio development.
Lennox Dunbar, Ian Howard and Arthur Watson are three of Scotland’s foremost artists. The Aberdeen-born contemporaries attended Aberdeen Grammar School and were greatly influenced by visits to the Art Gallery. This exhibition features works purchased for the collection early in the artists’ careers. These sit alongside more recent examples by these significant figures who, as artists and educators, have influenced subsequent generations.
Polishing granite at J R Henderson’s, June 1978
Voices from the Granite Industry
4 November - 14 April
Aberdeen Art Gallery
Admission free
From ancient quarries to iconic buildings, this exhibition gives insights into how the Granite City earned its name. Local workers share their memories of quarrying and working our local stone in the form of short films which bring life to objects from the city’s collections.
See the hand tools used to carve memorials shipped worldwide, while you listen to some of the last generation of apprentices describe how they were used.
