In 1885 local granite merchant Alexander MacDonald bequeathed a gift to Aberdeen Art Gallery to be used exclusively for purchasing artwork less than 25 years old.
Thanks to his generosity, the people of Aberdeen and visitors to the Art Gallery can enjoy over a century of contemporary art - one of the finest collections in the country, including one of our most-loved paintings, 'To Pastures New' by Sir James Guthrie.
Leaving a gift, however large or small will help to preserve Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums and the exceptional collections of art and history in our care for future generations to enjoy.
