Join Hately Trio, Moira Docherty (soprano), Colin Brockie (bass-baritone) and Tim Tricker (piano) as they perform some 20th Century songs including the ever-popular one-act opera, The Telephone by Gian Carlo Menotti.

The Telephone is a comic one-act opera sung in English written by Gian Carlo Menotti (1911 – 2007) who wrote both words and music. It was written for production by the Ballet Society and was first presented on a double bill with Menotti’s The Medium at the Heckscher Theatre in New York City on February 18th-20th, 1947. The subsequent Broadway production took place from May 1st 1947 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and ran for over 200 performances. The Metropolitan Opera presented it once in 1965. Numerous recordings and DVD versions have been made since, most recently a DVD made by Scottish Opera made during lockdown and updated using mobile phones and text messages. 

Moira Docherty, Soprano OSt. J 
Moira is a versatile singer, classically trained at the North East of Scotland Music School in Aberdeen. She has been a principal soprano with Tayside Opera since 2008 singing many operatic roles including Tosca, Mimi ('La Boheme') Violetta, ('La Traviata'), Lucia ('Lucia di Lammermoo'), Lady Macbeth ('Macbeth') Adina ('The Elixir of Love') and is currently preparing the role of Lucia ('Lucia di Lammermoor') this June. www.taysideopera.com 

Moira is much in demand throughout Scotland as a soloist with Choral Societies, recital and concert work. Soon to be soloist for Aberdeen Choral Society’s Spring concert; 19 March at Fountainhall Church at the Cross, conducted by Paul Mealor. Colin Brockie, Bass-baritone 
Originally from Ellon, Colin started singing and acting at an early age with the Children’s Theatre and Youth Choir at Haddo House. While studying at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, he participated in many local shows. He then completed a Masters in Solo Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He went on to sing with Buxton Festival Opera, Wexford Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Since 2019, Colin has been the manager of the North East of Scotland Music School here in Aberdeen but still appears as a soloist in concert and oratorio performances. www.colinbrockie.com 

Tim Tricker, Piano 
Tim grew up in Suffolk, beginning the piano at the age of six and the bassoon at eleven. While studying at Aberdeen University, he sang with the King’s College Chapel Choir and was musical director of the University’s Gilbert & Sullivan society. Later he held two musical positions in Edinburgh, but returned to Aberdeen to become a teacher at the university. He conducts the Concordia Sting Orchestra, the Grampian Concert Orchestra and the Grampian Hospitals’ Choir but is also in frequent demand as an accompanist and a conductor
