Linden Stewart
Linden is 17 years old and in her final year at Meldrum Academy. She’s a member of Meldrum Academy’s orchestra, concert band, senior pupils’ choir and ceilidh band. She has also been a performing arts’ ambassador at Meldrum Academy for two years, which involves supporting the performing arts faculty at community events, as well as giving support and encouragement to younger members of the music groups. Linden has been playing clarinet for eight years, as well as piano for 11 years. She has passed grade seven with merit in both instruments. This year, Linden was awarded a NESMS scholarship in piano and the Gladys Sangster award for clarinet.
Mariette Pose
Mariette is a flautist from Aberdeen. She attends Aberdeen Grammar School, and is tutored at NESMS by Catherine O’Rourke. Mariette won the Aberdeen City Solo Performer of the Year, and subsequently competed in the Scottish Young Musician of the Year Final at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2023. Mariette performs regularly as part of the NESMS Flute Choir, Aberdeen Grammar School Concert band, AGS Face the music band and at other various concerts around Aberdeen. Mariette is also a keen pianist, regularly performing at school and public events. Mariette is applying to study physics at university next year and in her free time enjoys reading, painting and video games.
Zhaohong Chu
Zhaohong began his piano journey in 2019 at the age of seven and has steadily grown as a musician through both hard work and passion.
In 2022, he won the Piano Solo Baroque 12 & Under category at the Aberdeen and North East of Scotland Music Festival. His success continued in 2023 with the Alice Law Prize for Grade 7-8 at the same festival, alongside a distinction in his Trinity Grade 8 piano exam.
That year, he also received the Gladys Sangster Award scholarship at the North East of Scotland Music School (NESMS) and distinguished himself as the youngest finalist from Aberdeen in the Scottish Young Musician competition.
In 2024, Zhaohong earned the Junior Scottish Young Musician title for Aberdeen City Council and was awarded the Tom and Cath Johnston Award scholarship at NESMS. He has been invited to perform at various local events, including a lunch concert at Cowdray Hall organized by Aberdeen City Music Service and at the annual Aberdeen City and Shire Head Teachers' meeting.
