Consume more culture in 2025!

View of Aberdeen - Aberdeen Art Gallery

By mid-January many of us may be struggling to stick to a healthy new regime of eating more greens and going to the gym. But the good news is that consuming art and culture is also good for you – and we have these in abundance in Aberdeen.

A report published just after the New Year confirms that going to an arts event or taking part in a cultural activity, even as occasionally as every few months, can bring lots of benefits. I’m sure we can all remember a time we got a buzz from attending an exhibition or a concert, but the new report also confirms that art is good for you in other ways such as helping to manage pain, depression and dependence on medication.

Family Ceilidh

Family Ceilidh - Cowdray Hall

The Art Gallery, Maritime Museum and Provost Skene’s House are open every day. Admission is free and you’ll receive a warm welcome from our fantastic team of Museum Assistants. You can explore the galleries, be inspired by artworks, stories and people (download our free digital guide on the Bloomberg Connects app to hear our staff talking about some of the highlights at each venue). You might like to visit with a friend, or take some time out for yourself. Or come along to one of our many events, from talks and tours to workshops, family ceilidhs and concerts. Lots of our events are free, we ask you to pay what you can for some, and others, such as our special exhibition Artist Textiles – Picasso to Warhol (until 13 April), are ticketed, with a range of concessions and children under 12 go free.

Our free weekly Lunchbreak Concerts series returns to the Cowdray Hall in the Art Gallery tomorrow (Thursday 16) with performances by the talented pupils of Aberdeen City Music School. If you’re needing a boost this January, come along and experience the uplifting power of live music in the company of others.

Remember, consuming art and culture is good for you, is low in calories (unless you indulge in a tasty treat in one of the Gallery cafés), and we have lots to share. We can’t wait to welcome you this year!
