Maria Antonia in the MEAM Gallery

Shuang Liu studied at the school of fine arts, Shanghai University, receiving a master’s degree and is a member of the Shanghai Artists Association. His figurative portraits have been in numerous national and international exhibitions and competitions including the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition.
The portrait is of Maria Antonia, a professional model, whom Shuang Liu met when they both participated in the TIAC invitation exhibition Beyond Language - Figurative Painting in China at the MEAM (Museum of European Art), Barcelona in 2019. The artist was keen to depict Maria’s role as both a model and a viewer of the art at the exhibition by showing her surrounded by easels.
