Fiona White studied at Prahan College of Art, Melbourne. Her work has been seen in numerous group exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on several occasions, the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2018, New South Wales and Red Dot Miami. She has had solo exhibitions in Australia, the United States and the UK and was previously selected for the BP Portrait Award in 2019.

The portrait is a meditation on White’s life and events she has witnessed. She says: ‘I want the person depicted to be less about me and more about the ideas shown in the painting. Part of my inspiration was The Day of Reaffrmation speech by Robert Kennedy; “... The third danger is timidity… Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change the world which yields most painfully to change”.’
